`EVERYTHING`S DIFFERENT NOW` A MASTERPIECE OF MELANCHOLY

`Til Tuesday, Everything`s Different Now (Epic): Maybe there`s no connection between the fact that Aimee Mann once dated Jules Shear and now writes in a very different and Shearlike sweet pop style. And maybe it`s just a coincidence that the two have gone their separate ways and this new album is filled with breakup songs. Shear`s influence is more than just a supposition, however, as he wrote the title track and co-wrote the first single, ``Believed You Were Lucky.`` But most of the credit for this little masterpiece of melancholy should go to Mann, whose songwriting, singing and overall sense of direction have never been stronger. Maybe it`s true that the worst in life inspires the best in art. `Til Tuesday makes a good case for that on its intriguing and ultimately triumphant third album.
